ABOUT US

We are beginning a mentorship program for the Houston Metropolitan area. This program consists of teaching young scholars’ tuba pedagogy and techniques to produce a full resonant beautiful tone. We will develop articulation, diaphragmatic breathing and phrasing, lip slurs, sight-reading, and most importantly the discipline to do daily exercises to maintain these essential skills.

These cognizant thinking methods and embouchure enhancing tools will come from etude books, college audition materials, solos, and prior experience we gathered from all over the country.

Tuba League is a non-profit organization that works with tuba players. Both men and women come together to work on bettering their abilities. We have high school students, university students, and alumni that help each other out.

How we differentiate from other clinicians or workshops?

We’ll have the opportunity to benefit all band directors by educating scholars on a one on one basis. Furthermore, we will provide guest speakers for all that enrolls in our program. These speakers will share life lessons on anger management, how to build credit, purchasing a home, personal finance/ budgeting, etc. This is just a minute list of the things we have in store for the young scholars. We’re here to improve ourselves, our group, and encourage others to come and play.

WHY DO WE CARE?

We care because these are the essential things that mature adults wish were taught to them at a younger age. Think about how many obstacles could have been avoided if we had been taught the basics/ blueprint to life.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

Trent R.

University Graduate

Former Univ. Sousaphone Section Leader

T. League Asst Director

"My experience with Tuba League has been absolutely amazing. My first year doing it was in 2017. I watched the clips from 2015 and just knew I had to participate. I saw it as an opportunity to build me as a player. Although I was preparing to step into my first year as section leader at TxSU, I still saw it as an opportunity not only to play with some of the younger tuba players in the city but also to observe and soak in various teaching methods. In 2019, Tuba League continues to provide youth to get the opportunities and experiences that I didn't get in high school, which is being taught by former college section leaders. I am very proud of what this program has grown into and I look forward to more of the young tuba players in the Houston Area coming out to be apart of this legacy. Salute to you on turning your dream into a reality Reke! Much love!"
